Tier 1 Automotive Supplier Trouble Shooting – Siemens S7, Temperature Controller
A major automotive Customer suffered a failure on a Cambridge Scientific temperature controller fitted to his carpet press. Only his stock stood between him and a £20K per minute line stoppage penalty clause. The machine was Italian and there was no meaningful support. A few days later the Cambridge Scientific controller completely failed – the module was obsolete, spares were not available and had software / hardware version compatibility problems. The Italian manufacturer was of little help.
Through the night we removed the Cambridge Scientific temperature controller and replaced it with a Siemens S7 PLC, simultaneously we developed new PLC software and commissioned the fix.
7am we handed the carpet press back to production thereby avoiding the penalty clause. Over the next few days we expanded the functionality to cover the entire production range making the Siemens S7 fix a permanent solution.
