Carpet Yarn Blending Plant Material handling application – Siemens S5 to S7 upgrade

This batch processing plant was controlled by two Siemens S5-135U CPUs, Simens Simatic
Co-ordination processor, Siemens Simatic Coros CP527 graphics processor with 5 expansion
racks supporting 2800 digital input / outputs controlling plant spread across 6
acres.

The old Siemens S5 intelligent modules were replaced by a single Siemens S7-400 with a
Siemens WinCC SCADA interface for visualisation and recipe selection. The new S7 system
communicated with the large amount of Siemens S5 digital i/o in several heavily populated
expansion racks.

The upgrade of the control system was completed with zero downtime.
