Flying Shear Breakdown Steel Processing – Siemens S5, Siemens Step 5
We routinely attend this Schumag machine for other control system problems with Siemens S5 PLC control, Siemens WF726 counter modules, Arcnet communications, Simovert drives and Simoreg drives. On this occasion the problem was with the Schumag flying shear. Unusual behaviour was occurring during the reference operation. We narrowed the fault down to the encoder and using our oscilloscope we discovered a “weak” Z pulse at 12volts (the min switching level was 18V) – the encoder was replaced, the shear manually moved to the reference position, flexible encoder couplings tightened and set into its new reference position.
Machine returned to production.
